Has it been proven that subliminal messages affect us?
Yes. Lee M. Shulman, PhD, and Dr. Joyce Shulman, PhD, the leading experts in the field of subliminal learning, "investigated the reports of thousands of experiments and tests involving subliminal stimulation," proving that they do. They report this in their book, Subliminal: The New Channel to Personal Power, written with Gerald P. Rafferty, PhD, InfoBooks, Santa Monica, CA, 1990. (It is currently out of print but may be available in used book shops or online out-of-print books sources.)
How often should I play these programs?
At least one to three hours or more every day. One hour is absolute minimum and should not be your daily routine. They work by daily repetition. It's important not to skip a day! Increasing the number of hours will bring even faster results.
Should I concentrate on listening?
They are ideal for busy people, as they do not require your conscious attention. In fact, they work better when your conscious mind is otherwise occupied. Bypassing your conscious mind helps to bypass your resistance to change. Play them in the background while you go about your normal activities -- work, exercise, relax, prepare meals, talk on the phone -- even read or watch TV. Just be sure you can still hear the mountain stream sounds.
When can I expect results?
This depends on (1) your receptivity to change, (2) how deeply ingrained your old habits are and how much resistance you have to making each specific change, and (3) how you use these audio programs. So be sure to follow the directions in each box. With Alphasonics programs, which work faster than others, most people notice some progress toward results within a few days and get results somewhere between three weeks and about three months. So be patient and give them time to work. Once you achieve your goal, continue playing it for three or more weeks to make the new habits your own. Then you can taper off and use the program from time to time as reinforcement when needed.
Do I need expensive equipment?
No, an ordinary small personal CD player or walkman style tape player will do fine. Stereo is important for best results with Alphasonics programs because of the different channels for right and left brain hemispheres. Use speakers whenever earphones are inconvenient, although you get somewhat more benefit with earphones. Listening in any compressed format will give you no results at all, although it is possible to listen on your computer or on an iPod or other personal music player in uncompressed formats such as AIFFf or by using our mp3 programs. Can I listen on my computer or my MP3 player?
Importing our CDs into iTunes for listening on your computer or downloading to an iPod or other personal music player, for personal use only, is permissable, but compressed formats such as MP3 and AAC delete the subliminal messages and leave you with only the mountain stream sound, and so provide no results at all. The use of uncompressed formats such as AIFF is effective. The best choice for use with your phone or mp3 player is to purchase our programs already in the mp3 format. Click here for details.
Are they recommended for children?
Yes! Children are even more receptive to the benefits than adults because they are still so open, not yet set in their patterns of thinking. All Alphasonics programs have underlying themes of self esteem and inner calm that are wonderful for getting the best start in life.
Should I switch off the Dolby setting on my tape player?
Absolutely! Dolby is designed to eliminate unnecessary noise. But in the process it also eliminates some of our subliminal content. It does not remove it permanently, but listening with Dolby switched on can reduce your results.
Do subliminals work during sleep?
Since parts of your brain shut down during sleep, our tapes and CD's are generally more effective while you are awake, but you can still get benefits from them while sleeping. They do work especially well when you are relaxed. The relaxing ones can help you get better quality sleep. Avoid high energy titles like Peak Performance at night, though, as they may keep you awake.
When should I listen?
Use each program when you want to feel the way it is designed to make you feel. Use action oriented programs when you are active, especially early in the day, and relaxing ones in the evening or whenever you want to rest. Listen to Concentration when you want to concentrate, the weight loss titles around meal times, Stop Smoking at the times you usually feel the desire to smoke. Avoid high energy titles like Stop Procrastination and I Love to Exercise at bedtime, and avoid relaxing ones like Deep Relaxation and Stress Management while driving. (In fact any of the programs may make certain people drowsy, so test them at home before playing them in your car.)
How can I interpret my responses?
Most people notice steady progress toward their goals. But people who have great resistance to making certain changes may experience a slight headache very briefly or a reverse reaction, such as an urge to smoke more than usual after playing Stop Smoking or to eat rich foods after playing one of the weight loss programs. It is as if your subconscious mind is saying, "This is your last chance! So live it up while you still can!" This is very brief, from a few hours to a few days. Be assured that these are good signs, as it shows that the program is working effectively to remove that resistance. It is likely that you would not break through this barrier without it. Once this short-lived response passes, you will be free to discover new powers within yourself.
